A number of years ago, my wife and I came across a very clever street puppeteer in Harvard Square, delighting children and adults with his magic.

That man in Harvard Square, I was sorry to learn some months later, had died. I'm not sure what the cause of death was; he seemed a reasonably young man to me, but perhaps I was wrong.

He was a Russian immigrant, as I recall.

How I learned so much about the puppeteer I've forgotten.

How I enjoyed his performance, with his friends on strings, I will always remember.
