There'd be days like that:

Actually, she said no such thing.

Neither the tune nor the lyrics, truth to tell.

It would have been useful if she had told me that, because for a number of years I went through life expecting no such disappointments, without the realization that I should consider the possibility of their existence and, however possible, arm myself against them.

Be . . . prepared.

But she didn't, and I wasn't, and now here I am, doing what we all need to do . . .

Dealing with it.
